What is Expressive Arts? The use of the arts – dance, drama, music, visual arts, and poetry for an individuals self-discovery through spontaneous art is known as Expressive Art. Expressive Arts is an inter-modal arts-based process for personal introspection, expression and development.
Artistic Modalities Include:
- Visual Arts (drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, clay, sculpture)
- Music (singing, drumming, playing instruments)
- Drama (storytelling myths/tales, masks, puppets, dolls)
- Creative Writing (poetry, short stories, journalling )
- Sand Tray
- Expressive Dance & Movement
- Mindfulness Meditation
- Labyrinths & Mandalas
These combined creative activities can promote personal growth, healing and transformation. It is an integrative and holistic approach that can engage mind, body & spirit. To help us to discover new ways of being through the imagination and creative process. Sessions can be profound, enlightening and transforming at the same time.
No artistic experience is necessary, you do not have to be skilled with drawing or painting in order to be engaged. The emphasis is on the process, rather than the end product.
Who can Benefit?
Expressive Arts is a flexible, multi-sensory approach beneficial for children and adults of all ages and abilities. For children, it enables their natural ability to process their experiences through art. For adults, it offers an alternative way of exploring issues, as well new methods of non-verbal communication.
